(Retired) Chief Joseph T. Hickson III, 70, born October 21, 1949 to Joseph II, and Eloise Hickson in Sanford, Florida, passed away Wednesday May 6, 2020 at South Seminole Hospital, Longwood, Fl. He was the Fire Chief of the beautiful Historic City of Sanford, where he served 30 years. Of his many other Accolades, as a young man, he was a professional Baseball player, he won a scholarship to Auburn University, (Alabama); he coached baseball for University of Central Florida; he will always be remembered for taking Bishop Moore High School, (Orlando, Fl), to the State Championship. Shortly after, he served as a Professor at Seminole Community College, Sanford, Fl. Leaving his legacy in the Sanford Fire Department, he hired, trained and promoted the now Fire Chief of The Sanford Fire Department, Chief Craig Radzak, with many other young men and women who served under his leadership. He leaves to cherish his memory, 2 beautiful daughters, Jamie Hickson, and Tresa Crocker; 1 brother, Michael L. Hickson II; 2 beautiful Sisters, Stacy Holtzclaw and Kelli Craig; 9 grandchildren, and a host of other family members, friends, and his Fire Department Family. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Joseph and Eloise Hickson; also his son, Arlis S. Hickson. He was loved by all who knew and loved him, and he will be greatly missed.
